In a recent survey, 69% of people would turn down a date, based on the state of their teeth. This is all well and good, but what exactly is it that turns people off? Well, here are the results:
1. Missing Teeth
Visible missing teeth were the biggest turn off, with a massive 57% of people saying that they would not date someone with missing teeth.
Apart from looking ugly, if teeth are missing, you can get smells from the area, from rotting food, the teeth can start moving in unfavourable positions and cause long term gum and bite problems.
It is always better to replace missing teeth soon after they are removed, to minimise long term damage.
There are lots of things that can be done to replace missing teeth, from simple removable dentures, to more complex and sturdy dental implants.
2. Stained Teeth
Nearly one in five people were put off by stained teeth. This is very surprising, as it is one of the simplest things to correct, and one of the most cost effective!
Just a simple hygiene session, which can cost about the same as a nice shirt, can remove all the surface staining, and bring back a shine to the teeth.
If you wanted to go a step further, then you could consider professional teeth whitening, and with the recent changes in the law, and unregistered people offering the service, make sure you see a good dentist for this treatment.
3. Everything Else
Cracked teeth, receding gums and uneven teeth combined put one in five people off. Usually cracked and uneven teeth are simple to correct, and gum troubles and be halted, all with simple treatments, and often costs less than you think.
Only 2% were put off by fillings, and 6% by visible braces – most adults these days tend to have invisible brace treatments, like Clearstep, which makes it almost impossible for people to know you are having your teeth straightened anyway!
