Rebuilding a Smile Design

“Weak teeth can fail over time”

Find out more about Dental Implants

What we did:

  • Replaced the minimal number of veneers

  • Weak teeth replaced with Dental Implants

  • New implant crown - keeping the original implant

This patient had a full upper and lower smile design at our practice about 15 years ago.

When we do a smile design, we look at each tooth individually, and in some cases, a tooth looks weak after having a lot of treatment, but we know that it can last a little while, so often our patients choose to keep the tooth.

Here, two of these teeth broke after about 15 years of the smile design treatment. We decided to look at all of the options, and decided to replace a few veneers, as the gum was starting to shrink back a little bit on them.

One of the front teeth (the one on the right as you look at it) is on a dental implant. The problem is that there is pus around the neck of this tooth – this is never a good sign on a dental implant.

Phase 1

We always look to get the mouth healthy, and I wanted to know if we could save the infected implant.

Luckily when we removed the crown from the tooth, and replaced it with a temporary tooth, the infection was gone.

Sometimes, the infection is caused by roughness around the crown – as it was in this case.

Phase 2

For the rebuild phase, we were able to place two new dental implants and carry out a smile design on the natural teeth and the dental implants.
